This show suffered from the same problem as all sci-fi shows--money. The space battles were too expensive to do a lot, so they overloaded parts of seasons with 'slice of life' episodes in the fleet. Those are fine sprinkled here and there, but three or four of them in a row simply doesn't work.

Spot on. Star Trek suffered from money problems as well. The degradation of special effects quality in the 3rd season was solely due to the studio stripping their budget.

Anyone here anxious for Battlestar Galactica series to start on SciFi?

At first wasn't to thrilled with all the changes they made but it was still pretty good. I still feel they changed to much of the story but I'm willing to adapt to the new storyline.

Ugh...no way! I can handle tweeks...but to replace starbuck with a woman is just...just...not right!

Ha! It's hilarious reading this thread from the beginning.

Starbuck was a decent character but why is she swinging an arrow at a cylOn, what is that going to do, bruise it?

And Starbuck is a bad ass at times, but she appears to know as much about martial arts as I do. That fight with number 6 was awkward at best.

My wife made me turn off the show because it was making me angry.
Good post, Mulli!

I actually had a love hate relationship with this show. I loved certain things about it and hated others. I still think it was a good show. Just things pissed me off. Not surprising considering who was running this thing.

It was odd to call it a reboot only to reference a previous war which was a perfect setup for a continuation of the original show (pretending Galactica 1980 never happened). The CGI with some of the Cylons was ridiculously bad. I would rather have seen an updated version of guys running around in armor. You could have used that sparingly considering the human looking models were introduced.

The new show had some really cool characters and I actually enjoyed the new take on several of the characters. The effects in other places were simply bad ass.

For everything I loved about the show something just pissed me off. Like I said love/hate type thing but I still enjoyed it and was happy it had a decent run.

I hated every minute of it.

:mulli:

It's roughly 3,500 minutes long. I'm trying to picture what life would be like for someone that willingly sat in front of a TV for 3,500 minutes, watching something they hated every minute of. My sympathies. Did you ever consider changing the channel?

I'm pretty sure this is what happened.

I fast-forwarded a lot to get to the end to see if I was missing something. I wasn't. I guess it wasn't every minute, why would anyone care?

LOL. No, it turns out he just fast forwarded to the end. I figure most digital devices fast forward at roughly 4 times normal speed so he only had to sit through about 18 hours. He's more patient than I am. If I hate something I just stop watching it.;)

Giving this a fresh run through. Started with the mini series and transitioned to the full series.
Man...
...
When this first came out I was dead set against it...I mean come on...gender swap Starbuck?? freaking STARBUCK!!! Boomer? Sure, okay...but Starbuck was the ultimate dude... Han Solo for prime time...and having Dirk Benedict play the role so masterfully was a boot in the face to mens men and haters everywhere.
And Lorne Green? Lorne was my dad..my grandpa...my favorite uncle... Lorne was everybody's dad...
I was a pure Loyalist to the courage, creativity, and audacity of the original.
But... it was B.G. so I had to watch.

It took a few episodes to buy in.
As much as I hated the idea of Katee Sackhoff playing the most iconic character in the show(except for maybe the Cylon warrior).... it took her all of about 4 episodes to completely own the character...now whenever I think Starbuck i think Katee...
The new nylons were cool..kinda scary...didn't like what they did with their ships though...

In the end I came to a realization. I was 12 when the original came out... 36 when this one dropped...
I realized the original wasnt "my" Galactica. It was my parents...it was never made for me or my pre teen counterparts..
For me and my GenX brethren...the reboot was "our" Galactica.
It was written and made with our pain, our bitterness, our fears

Anyway...series, mini series, and "The Plan" all just dropped on Paramount...
If your into Sci-fi...you know it's worth your time.

what's "The Plan"?

Man... this series was so damn amazing... right up until the revelation of who the last Cylon was the final season falling flat on its face.

The Plan is a TV movie about the Cylon plan for eradicating the human species.
Just saw it on my Paramount search last night...might be the first time because I dont remember ever seeing the movie.
I skipped it and went straight into the series after the mini.
Figured I would go back to it later...but I'm not sure where it fits chronologically

hmmm... man, I watched those so long ago, I can't even remember if I saw it.

I binged the hell out of that series while in recovery from two massive back surgeries. My buddy brought over the DVDs and was like watch these and I thought he was nuts. Watched the first episode and was hooked and ended up burning through the first four seasons and multiple movies in like a week.

S2E5 ends with the text...
"And they have a Plan"
On the screen.. so maybe that movie fits in there?

Yeah, the other Cylon reveal was absolute ish. I also had problems with the one season where they played like 5 slice of life episodes in a row. Even then, though, they were good, and you could understand that they just didn't have the budget to do more.

Looked up The Plan.

It covers everything from the mini series through season two from the Cylon perspective.
But they recommend you watch it last because it reveals Cylon that we're not revealed until season 5
