Behind a balanced scoring effort that included an 11-point outing from Violet Edwards, the South Webster Jeeps’ girls basketball program improved to 6-4 overall as Ryan Dutiel’s squad was able to claim a road victory over the Valley Indians’ girls basketball program in a SOC III contest that was held in Lucasville Monday evening.

Edwards, who scored six of her 11 points in the fourth quarter of South Webster’s eight-point victory, helped South Webster increase its 28-25 third-quarter advantage out to the 40-32 final. The Lady Jeeps outscored the Lady Indians 25-13 in the second half to flip the script of the contest.

In addition to Edwards, Addi Claxon and Emma Campbell each finished with nine points apiece while Ava Claxon added in seven points and Natalee Eskridge four for South Webster.

Green 62, Clay 51 (BBKB)

Jon Knapp ripped the cords for 29 points, Gabe Blevins and Brennan Renison joined Knapp in double-figures and the Green Bobcats’ boys basketball program defeated the Clay Panthers’ basketball program by a 62-51 margin Friday evening in a SOC I contest that was held at Clay High School in Rosemount.

Green, who led by a 40-38 margin after three quarters of play, got a huge fourth quarter from Knapp, who poured in 13 of his 29 points in the final eight minute stanza.

The senior, who is signing to play baseball at Rio Grande next week, hit five three-pointers in the contest — four in the second half — and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line in an efficient performance.

Blevins, who added in 11 points for the Bobcats, scored nine tallies in the opening quarter alone, while Renison buried two treys to post six of his 10 points in the opening period as the duo combined for 15 of Green’s 21 points in the first eight minutes of action to give the Bobcats a 21-11 lead.

Riddick Jenkins (five points), Uriah Satterfield (four tallies) and Noah McMackin (three points) rounded out the scoring for Green, who hit nine three-pointers in the contest as a team.

Clay, who outscored Green 22-11 in the third quarter to close a 29-16 halftime deficit down to a single possession entering the fourth quarter, was led by Noah Woods who went off himself for 24 points including nine in the first quarter and 15 in the second half. Woods hit six three-pointers by himself in the contest.

Evan Rider, who joined Woods in double-figures, scored eight of his 13 points in the second half for Clay, while Corey Williams posted all eight of his points in the second half and Eli Bailey all six of his tallies in the third quarter as the Panthers connected on 10 trifectas as a team.
