Sometimes, one inning is all it takes.

Claremore turned a tight game into a rout in a matter of minutes Friday, exploding for 10 runs in the second inning to cruise past Coweta 12-1 in the McAlester 5A Shootout Festival at McAlester High School.

The Zebras were powered by Kellen Gaede, who delivered a monster performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs. Brayden Floyd and Evan Jameson also collected multiple hits, while Claremore’s defense was flawless, committing no errors behind a strong outing from starting pitcher Xyler Reeder.

Reeder set the tone early on the mound, striking out 5 over 4 innings while allowing just 2 hits and 1 run — a solo home run — and issuing no walks.

In the bottom of the first, Jameson led off with a single and Gaede followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Floyd then delivered with a single to left, driving in both runners to give the Zebras a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers answered in the second when Dalton Warren launched a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

That was as close as it would get.

The second inning turned the game completely on its head.

After Tyler Osgood reached and Braden Trail got aboard, Jameson worked a walk to set the stage. Gaede then came through with a 2-run single to extend the lead to 4-1. Floyd followed with an RBI single to make it 5-1.

The Zebras kept pouring it on.

Bo Wolf singled to drive in a run, Osgood was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another and Trail ripped a 2-run single to push the lead to 9-1. Saxton Pickup added a single to keep the line moving, and Jameson followed with an RBI single to make it 10-1.

Gaede capped the inning in fitting fashion, lining another single to bring home 2 more runs and stretch the lead to 12-1.
