Each week we will feature some of the top performances across South Jersey baseball diamonds in our seven-county coverage area.

Gloucester Catholic's Bobby Kleinow was the top vote getter last week, garnering 58.7 percent of the 12.5 K votes recorded. Bishop Eustace's Dan Passalacqua and Clearview's Luke Yeager rounded out the top three vote getters.

Burlington County Scholastic League​


Joey Conley, Northern Burlington. The junior picked up the first two hits of his season during the Greyhounds’ 4-0 win over Westampton Tech on May 22. Conley had a run scored and an RBI in the contest.

Vinny Sacca, Delran. The senior went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBIs as the Bears split two games for the week. Sacca had a single, double and triple with both RBIs in a 6-5 win over Millville on May 18. He has a knock in 16 of his last 18 games lifting his batting average to .441.

William Tschumy, Doane Academy. The junior continued to sizzle at the dish, collecting two hits and two runs scored in a 4-3 victory over Burlington Township on May 22. It was Doane’s 20th win of the season. Tschumy recorded 14 multi-hit games in the regular season and raised his team-leading hit total to 40.

Colonial Conference​


Jackson Butler, Haddon Heights. The junior stacked together four straight two-hit games and drove in a run in the regular-season finale. Butler scored seven runs during a four-game stretch, raising his season to 22. He’s also batting .318.

Nate Schwartz, Sterling. The senior fired a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts as the Silver Knights silenced West Deptford, 7-0, on May 19. Schwartz has allowed just two earned runs over his last 21 innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 1.59. He’s also won all of his last four starts.

Matt Steedle, Gateway. The senior drove in a career-high four runs as the Gators finished the regular season with an 11-2 win over Pleasantville. He has six RBIs in his last four games.

Milestone: Haddon Heights’ Kevin Clark recorded his 100th career hit in grand style, roping a bases-loaded home run during a win over Haddon Township on May 19. The Kutztown-bound catcher finished with two homers in the game, raising his career hit total to 101.

Olympic Conference​


Cole Anderson, Shawnee. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs scored as the Renegades knocked off Rancocas Valley, 9-2, to clinch the American Division title. Anderson is batting .351 with 27 hits, including eight for extra bases.

Steve Barbagiovanni, Cherokee. Hitting out of the ninth spot in the Chiefs’ lineup, the senior went 4-for-4 with his first scholastic home run and six RBIs during a 15-5 victory over Eastern on May 18. Ten of Barbagiovanni’s 18 RBIs on the season have come in his last three games. He’s also 7-for-7 over the stretch, raising his batting average to .367

Anthony Cataldo, Eastern. The senior went 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored as the Vikings successfully defended their Camden County Tournament title with a 12-2 win over Pennsauken on May 22. Cataldo’s third knock was the 100th hit of his scholastic career. Cataldo has a .331 career batting average over his four years in the program.

Tri-County Conference​


Ethan DuBois, Delsea. The junior finished the regular season on a heater, going 8-for-12 over the final three games and helping the Crusaders to extend their winning streak to five. DuBois hit his second homer of the season and scored three times in a 7-2 victory over Millville on May 20. He scored twice more in a 10-2 triumph over Audubon on May 22. DuBois is hitting .422 with 27 runs scored this season.

Cooper Himes, Overbrook. The senior collected his 100th career hit in the Rams’ 11-3 win over Camden Tech on May 20. Himes went 3-for-3 in the game and has eight hits in his last nine at-bats to raise his batting average to .458. Himes is just the second player in program history to reach 100 career hits and the first in 31 years.

Braeden Lipoff, Gloucester Catholic. The senior went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases as the Rams captured the 52nd annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic title with a 13-2 win over Clearview on May 19. The East Carolina commit is batting .458 with three homers and 33 RBIs as Gloucester Catholic begins its quest for another state title this week.

Jacob Schalick, Schalick. The junior extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a pair of multi-hit performances last week. Schalick closed out the regular season with seven knocks over three games with five runs scored and six RBIs . He’s batting .507 with 36 hits, 30 runs scored and 25 RBIs for the Diamond Division champion Cougars.

Milestone: Kingsway head coach Bill Alvaro captured his 500th career win with an 11-1 triumph at Ocean City on May 18. Alvaro, who has coached 28 years at three different schools, is the tenth coach in South Jersey history to achieve the 500-win milestone.

Cape-Atlantic League​


Jake Blum, Mainland. The senior had two hits, two runs scored, two RBIs and three stolen bases as the Mustangs captured the Cape-Atlantic League Tournament title with a 9-6 win over Egg Harbor Township on May 19. Blum finished the regular season with a .344 batting average and a team-best 17 stolen bases.

Anthony String, Bridgeton. String closed out his sophomore season in style, tossing a a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in his last outing on the mound while going 2-for-3 with two walks and five RBIs in his final game at the plate. The Bulldogs won both games against LEAP Academy, finishing with six wins, the program’s most in 21 years. String finished with a .355 batting average and four pitching victories.

Alex Weingartner, St. Augustine. The senior had three hits, including his 100th of her career, during the Hermits’ 19-9 victory over Holy Spirit on May 20. It was his 11th multi-hit game of the season and raised his batting average to .532. Of his 100 career hits, 41 have come this season while he’s also scored 41 runs and swiped 28 bases.
