Playing a doubleheader on Sunday after a rain delay on Saturday, No. 17 TCU split a pair of games with Tulane to take the team’s nonconference series against the Green Wave this past weekend. While TCU’s six-game winning streak came to an end, the Horned Frogs (9-6) are three games over .500 entering Big 12 play this week. TCU will take on Kansas this Tuesday before hitting the road for a three-game conference series against Arizona State.
Friday: No. 17 TCU 10, Tulane 2
With ace Tommy LaPour still sidelined, left-hander Mason Brassfield started the series opener and struck out 10 batters over five innings of work. Brassfield, who limited the Green Wave to two earned runs on three hits, gave the ball to Nate Stern in relief. Stern threw a pair of scoreless frames, while Trever Baumler and Tyler Phenow each added a scoreless inning of relief to help the Horned Frogs close out their series opener Friday evening.

Nolan Traeger’s RBI single in the first inning put TCU ahead 1-0. The Horned Frogs added on with RBI singles from Colton Griffin and Sawyer Strosnider in the second inning. Cole Cramer smacked an RBI single in the fourth inning, giving the Horned Frogs a 4-0 lead before Tulane tallied a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.
Lucas Franco’s grand slam in the seventh inning served as the exclamation point for the Horned Frogs, who tacked a run on after Kyuss Gargett slapped an RBI single in the eighth inning. TCU finished with 12 hits and drew eight walks in the victory. Franco scored two runs and recorded a team-high four RBIs in the game.
Sunday Game 1: Tulane 8, No. 17 TCU 4
The Horned Frogs led 4-0 after five innings, but two runs in the top of the sixth and four in the top of the seventh allowed Tulane to surge ahead and ultimately win the first half of the doubleheader on Sunday. Rob Liddington’s solo shot in the fourth and Sawyer Strosnider’s solo blast in the fifth helped TCU build a four-run lead. TCU had seven hits and drew seven walks, four of which were drawn by Chase Brunson, who reached five times.

Lance Davis posted a quality start for the Horned Frogs, pitching six strong innings and striking out three batters while holding Tulane to three hits and two runs. Walter Quinn entered in relief and took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits while recording just one out in the seventh. Tanner Sagouspe and Kade Durnin followed in relief, but each pitcher gave up one run, as the Green Wave tacked on two runs in the ninth to ice their victory.
Sunday Game 2: No. 17 TCU 4, Tulane 3
Preston Gamster stepped up in the series finale, hitting a two-run homer in the second inning before lofting an RBI single into shallow left field during the fifth inning to finish with three RBIs. Ethan Thomas relieved starter Uli Fernsler and earned the victory in relief, throwing three shutout frames with five strikeouts. Nate Stern came out after and preserved TCU’s lead and Walter Quinn avenged his rough first-game outing to earn the save.
