2 Punts so far...

50-yarder out-of-bounds on the Denver 25 and a fair catch on the Denver 8.

So far so good.

Get Player Back

Remember, Barr is punting in the high altitude/light air of Denver and he's booming 38 yarders. Give me a break. Since I didn't see the game, I have no idea what kind of a holder he is, although Rackers did miss a 50 yarder. It's only his first game, so too early to tell, but nothing to get excited about. And keep in mind if Pitt liked him, they wouldn't have drafted a punter, which I thought I read that they did.

Well obviously Pitt's former Special teams coach and OC liked him cause they didn't even give Player a chance to battle for the job. They must be pretty confident in what they had seen in the past.

I am really hoping that Barr falls flat on his face. My best friend was just released from the Pats today and they might try to sign him to the practice squad again. He was the only punter on the Pats roster and had a 45.2 avg and 39.8 net for the preseason so far. He grew up here and is a huge Cardinals fan, and has contacted the Cardinals and to come in for a workout. But if he ends up somewhere else then I have no problem with how Barr did tonight and feel pretty comfortable with him punting for us this year.

Ours and Denver's. No contest. Will they admit he's not who they thought he was?

Oh good lord...are we really going to argue about flippin punters on this board?

38.4 net punting average tonight. 8.4 more than Player's this preseason. That's called an improvement.

Plus, most of those snaps were really low forcing his punts to get off late...it will take Hodel a bit of time to get used to Barr back there. Tell me someone else besides me saw this??? The snaps were bad, yet he still got a net over what the team goal was and close to 9 yards longer than player's net. MUCH more hang time.

Very happy with ReBarr.

He was solid, not spectacular. It looks like we'd be better off with him just kicking it to the sidelines every damn time though. The one kick to the middle had a 20+ return, and was not a good punt.

Sauerbrun (Spelling?) was suspended once already for steroid use.

Todd Sauerbrun was the punter for the Pats, and the Pats were mighty displeased to lose him but he had a get out clause that he used, to his advantage, to get to Denver.

I would think that Barr is just happy to be compared with him at this point considering he has had very little practice with the long snapper, was kicking for the first time with a new team, and managed to put up reasonable numbers under what was undoubtedly a lot of pressure. I think we have a keeper!

He was with Denver, before the Patriots...they let him go after he served his 4 game suspension, then they really wanted him back. He wanted to go back to Denver and used his "out" clause with New England...but, realistically, what punter wouldn't want to be in Denver?

That's the truth, playing 8 games a season at altitude really does something for your stats!

The one thing that Player sucked as was being the last line of defense. Anyone ever wonder why the Cards have sucked so bad at covering punts. I think a big part of it was that Player was too old to be an effective last line of defense.

I'm impressed with Barr so far and am starting to think it might improve our punt coverage. I love the fact that he is a directional punter.

Give me a punter that can give me great hang time and I'll show you and improved punt coverage unit.

I didn't see the game (yet) but that's what I was thinking from the boxscore...5 punts, 2 returns, and 1 for 1 yard, and 1 for 21.

That sounds like good hangtime (forcing fair cacthes), except for the 21yd return.

Actually, he had good hang time on that and the first guy down there missed the tackle. It was a good punt...40+ yards and the coverage whiffed the tackle.

Again, it was a crappy snap.
