The No. 6 Auburn Tigers are set to face No. 11 Mississippi State for the third and final time in this weekend's SEC series at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville, Mississippi, on Saturday.
Mississippi State took game one of the series on Thursday, 10-3, which was headlined by a 1st inning grand slam off the bat of Bryce Chance. The Tigers fought back in game two to win, 5-4, thanks to a solo home run by Chase Fralick in the 9th inning.
Game three is pivotal as the winner will likely secure a national seed in the NCAA Tournament that begins later this month. Both teams rank in the top 10 in RPI entering Saturday's critical game three, with Auburn jumping one place to No. 3 following Friday's win. A win over Mississippi State on Saturday would add another Quad-1 victory to Auburn's resume, giving it 13 for the season, and inching it closer to Florida's 15 wins over teams in the category.
Auburn will look to Alex Petrovic to lead the charge on the mound on Saturday. Auburn has won four of its last five games with Petrovic on the mound and will look to continue its trend of clinching series wins in Petrovic's starts. Mississippi State will counter with Ryan McPherson, who has not made an appearance for the Bulldogs since March 20 with a forearm strain.
