The 2026 MLB Draft continues Sunday, and the first Auburn Tiger pitcher is off the board.
Auburn's Sunday starting pitcher, Alex Petrovic, was the first Auburn star taken during the Sunday portion of the MLB draft, going No. 181 overall in the sixth round to the New York Mets with a slot value of $364.6 thousand.
He is the second member of Auburn baseball's 2026 roster to be selected in this year's draft, joining Chris Rembert, who was selected in the second round by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the opening day of the draft on Saturday.
Petrovic appeared in 31 games during his three seasons in Auburn, but burst onto the scene as a redshirt sophomore in 2026. He started 17 games in 2026 as a part of Auburn's pitching rotation, mostly as the starter for the final game of Auburn's weekend series.
Petrovic was a clutch piece of the weekend rotation by winning 10 games and striking out 92 batters over 92 2/3 innings. Auburn won 12 games in which Petrovic started, which included stretches of five straight games to open the season and four straight during SEC play.
If Petrovic signs a contract with the Mets, which is expected, his Auburn career ends with an 11-2 record over three seasons with an ERA of 3.60 and 134 strikeouts.
