An Auburn Tiger is heading north of the border to continue his football career.

On Monday, former Auburn long snapper Reed Hughes was signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. Hughes is not the only former Tiger on the team, as he joins punter Oscar Chapman, who is also on the team.

Hughes spent six seasons on campus at Auburn, dating back to the 2020 season. He was the full-time starter at long snapper for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. During the 2023 season, Hughes split time with Jacob Quattlebaum. He played in 37 games during his career at Auburn and had five tackles during that time. Hughes was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll five times while with the Tigers.

Hughes arrived as a freshman at Auburn in 2020 after playing high school football in Arkansas. While in high school, he collected 170 tackles at Conway High School. He was an all-state player and led the state in tackles. During his time at Auburn, he participated in the success of kicker Alex McPherson.

The CFL is a different style of football, and there will be a major adjustment for Hughes. The Roughriders won the 2025 Grey Cup and posted a 12-6 record last season. They will be looking to repeat as champions for the 2026 season. CFL training camps will open on May 10th.
