The Atlanta Hawks opened Summer League play on Saturday against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City, where they put up a fight and forced overtime before falling by one.
The game, framed by some as a matchup between top picks Darryn Peterson (No. 2 overall) and Kingston Flemings (No. 8 overall), saw Peterson steal the show with a fantastic scoring performance.
In overtime, Flemings appeared to hit a game-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds to tie the game at 100, but his foot was on the line, which left the Hawks down one.
The Jazz were able to close the door from there, with the teams trading late baskets to push the final score to 103-102.
Utah was given a scare late in regulation when Atlanta's Gabe Madsen nailed a 3 to give the Hawks the lead, but the Jazz responded with a couple of free throws to tie the score before the end of regulation. Utah led for a majority of the game.
It was hard not to be impressed by Peterson, who had 28 points, five rebounds and two assists while shooting 11-for-21 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. He did turn the ball over eight times, but some hiccups are to be expected in a rookie's Summer League debut.
Flemings, for his part, showed flashes during the game. He was inefficient, shooting just 4-for-16 from the field, but he made a couple of 3-pointers, dished out nine assists and came up with four steals.
For Atlanta, fellow 2026 draftees Zuby Ejiofor and Henri Veesaar also saw action.
Ejiofor wasn't super efficient himself, but he stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, 11 rebounds, two assists and three steals. He was on the floor for 28 minutes.
Veesaar, meanwhile, had a somewhat quiet showing, finishing with five points on 2-for-4 shooting in 18 minutes of action. He also had three rebounds and one assist.
In total, 10 players got into the game for the Hawks, a welcome sight as the team looks to get its guys some opportunities this summer in both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
This is the start of a busy stretch for Atlanta. The squad will have two more games to play in Salt Lake City before heading to Vegas for the next chapter of the Summer League journey, where it will be guaranteed to play a minimum of five games.
Sunday will be a day off for the Hawks.
