FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas baseball infielder Carson Brumbaugh will look to jumpstart his college career away from the Razorbacks.

Brumbaugh entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, June 9. He is the sixth player from Arkansas to enter the portal.

Brumbaugh began the 2026 seasons as Arkansas' starting shortstop. Expectations were high for the Oklahoma native, with D1Baseball naming him the preseason SEC Freshman of the Year. He was the second true freshman to start at the premier position on Opening Day in coach Dave Van Horn's tenure at the school, which dates back to 2003.

However, Brumbaugh struggled out of the gates and never found his footing. He finished his debut season with a .140 batting average, six runs and two RBIs in 15 starts. He was officially benched for the SEC opener against Mississippi state in mid March.

Brumbaugh made two appearances on the mound as a hard-throwing righty and could be a two-way player at his next stop. He gave up one run in 1⅔ innings in 2026.

This departure means Arkansas will likely look to the portal for its starting shortstop in 2027. TJ Pompey and Nolan Souza could both return to school after playing third and second, respectively, in 2026. However, both of those players are eligible for this summer's MLB draft.

Brumbaugh was one of the jewels in Van Horn's 2025 recruiting class. Perfect Game ranked him as the No. 77 overall prospect and the No. 31 shortstop in the class of 2025, and Brumbaugh was a draft risk heading into last summer.

His brother, Cayden Brumbaugh, currently plays for an Oklahoma team that faces Alabama at the College World Series this weekend.
