What to know about the New York Mets
The Mets routed the Washington Nationals and have won nine of their past 11 games and could have easily won all 11 with a couple of breaks. At 20-9, they have the best record in the majors. They lead the majors with an ERA just over 2.50. Their offense has been more middle of the pack, though 1B Pete Alonso is off to an excellent start, hitting .337/.453/.635 with 11 doubles and six homers. SS Francisco Lindor (.304/.367/.473) has also started fast. RF Juan Soto has yet to get going, hitting .257/.378/.410 with three homers. Two starters, RHP Tylor Megill (1.74 ERA) and RHP Kodai Senga (1.26 ERA), are throwing well, and RHP Clay Holmes’ transition into a starting role has gone well through six starts. RHP Edwin Diaz, their All-Star closer, has been dealing with a hip issue.
