Couldn't be Marv's fault even though myself and others were criticizing his approach to the next level.
Marv is achieving his goals. I don’t think being the best WR in the NFL is among those goals. He was the highest non-QB drafted in his class.

I think he’ll ramp up over the next two years for a major second contract payday.

I’m not really going to blame Marv because our expectations for him weren’t aligned. I’ll absolutely blame Michael and Monti for not finding that out.

Buddy no haul was available. I think even if there was Michael would have quashed it for the same reason I think we drafted Love.

MHJ hoodwinked almost everyone by refusing to work out in the postseason. I don’t think the Cards did much to support him or his development, either. I think his ceiling now is an above-average but still second- or third-tier wideout.

Zero leadership anywhere to support him.
No trade haul was available but draft Joe Alt was an option and what I wanted them to do. Picking him to build the line would have been the smarter choice, especially with them trying to do a running offense then.

Yet Michael Wilson developed well beyond what most people thought of his potential, and beyond Harrison, under the same circumstances....

Yup. Michael Wilson is still trying to achieve the generational wealth that MHJ was born into. Wilson developed his own outside support system including TJ Houshmanzadeh.

Obviously the incentive structures are different for a Top 5 pick and a third-round pick.

Also... got a citation for that?

Penix, McCarthy, and Nix were still on the board and it turns out that teams coveted them. Are you sure none of them was willing to move up to #4?
Did they tho? Who was going to take them ahead of where they went? I can tell you no one. Ask me how I know.

Nix in particular was considered hilariously overdrafted at the time, as was Penix.
