Trevor Lawrence was an MVP finalist last season, following his performance during the Jacksonville Jaguars' 2025 season. But over those 17 games, the Denver game in Week 16 is the one that stood out to defensive tackle Arik Armstead, and truly highlighted Lawrence's high level of play.

Against one of the best defenses in football -- including one of the best at pressuring the quarterback -- Lawrence would complete 23 of 36 passes for 279 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He rushed for another touchdown as well.

In a road game against one of the AFC's best, Lawrence would lead the Jaguars to a 34-20 victory.

"A big area for me, and what solidified it for me, was that Denver game on the road," Armstead said while appearing on Good Morning Football. "Denver coming in and really an elite defense, one of the best defenses in the league -- pass rush, blitzes, playmakers all over the field. And they were sending pressure at him, they were throwing zero looks, they were rushing with four with some great guys, but down the stretch, he made plays. He figured it out. He figured out the blitzing, the concepts that were coming at him. He got the ball into playmakers' hands in a high-pressure situation."

Armstead continued, "So I think that was a big game, going on the road, late in the season against Denver, and I think he showed a lot. I think he showed how elite he was in that game and really all season. He made phenomenal highlight plays, and I think sky's the limit for him."

Lawrence finished the 2025 season as a finalist for the league's MVP award after completing 61% of his passes for 4,214 yards with 41 total touchdowns -- including 32 passing -- to 14 interceptions. Among all quarterbacks, he ranked seventh in passing yards and fourth in passing touchdowns.

During the final few months of the season, the Jaguars' offense was red-hot, led by Lawrence, averaging almost 33 points per game during that span.

The high level of play that Lawrence showcased began pre-snap. With a deeper understanding of Liam Coen's offense as the season went on, Lawerence's command at the line of scrimmage helped put the Jaguars in favorable looks from the jump.

Once the ball was snapped, Lawrence always seemed to know where to go with the ball based on what the defense was doing -- again highlighting his comfort within the offensive scheme.

"100%," Armstead said when asked if Lawrence should be considered an elite quarterback. "He should be in that conversation, and the steps that he's taken this year to improve. He's just scratching the surface. It's going to be so important for him to get with our coordinator and the coaching staff and have that consistency, and I think he's going to continue to get better and better."

As good as Lawrence was in 2025, Year 2 in Coen's offense could provide a jumping-off point for him. Rather than spending the offseason learning a new scheme -- as was the case last year -- Lawrence can dive deeper into the concepts.
