AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF)- The high school football season kicks off just a few weeks from now. This week, Georgia teams officially put the pads on for fall practice.
One team eager to get back on the field is the Aquinas Fighting Irish. The team went 7-5 last season but lost some notable talent on offense, including Christian Kates and Viriginia wideout Jack Rhodes.
However, quarterback Turner Stevenson returns for his second full season under center. He battled a UCL injury last year, but he’s hoping to step up more as a leader for these younger players.
“I mean we definitely have a lot of new receivers this year, I’m still trying to learn what they do and everything because we lost a lot last year, but it’s definitely getting really good,” Stevenson said.
“I’m not worried about the decisions, he runs our offense really well, I just want him to be more vocal and a little bit tougher on the guys,” said head coach James Leonard.
The Fighting Irish will play in class 2A now instead of 3A. They’ll kick off the season against Glascock County.
