Angers’ Himad Abdelli called up to Algeria’s AFCON squad

SCO Angers’ Himad Abdelli has been called up to Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad, following the withdrawal of Houssem Aouar.

The Algerian football federation confirmed on Friday that former Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Aouar, who now plays for Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League, has suffered an injury during training. Former Le Havre AC playmaker Abdelli has been in excellent form in recent weeks, following a return from an injury that ruled him out of the start of the campaign.

He has not played for Algeria for a year but now returns to the squad to participate in his first AFCON. His late call-up by Les Fennecs means that he drops out of Angers’ squad for this weekend. Le Sco face Herbiers on Friday night in the Coupe de France. Nattio Sonnerat Deschamps (17) replaces Abdelli in that squad.
