The Los Angeles Angels properly sold at the trade deadline for the first time in what feels like forever, but managed to keep two important players, shortstop Zach Neto and left-handed starter Reid Detmers, under their control for the time being.
Rumors swirled around Detmers and Neto as the deadline neared, including false reports of Detmers being shipped to Chicago, and after the number of moves the Angels made in the morning, it looked all but inevitable that they’d be playing in a different jersey by the end of the day.
Detmers is under team control through the 2028 season, and Neto through 2030, so the Angels managed to keep two players who will be extremely important to the future of this team as they try to return to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
Neto will be a key part in that journey, as he has become one of the most exciting players in the league during his time with the Angels. He has 19 homers and 47 RBIs on the year, and is trending towards his third consecutive 20/20 season with 14 steals through 109 games played.

His numbers aren’t quite consistent with his fantastic season in 2025, posting a .746 OPS compared to a .793 mark last season, but he is still an extremely important player for the Halos.
Detmers is similarly important, as he will remain in the rotation with young right-hander Walbert Urena for at least the next two years. Detmers returned to the starting rotation after a solid campaign in the bullpen last season, and has been solid in a less than impressive Angels team.
He has a 4.03 ERA on the year, striking out 145 batters in 125 innings.
While Detmers and Neto stayed, just about every other controllable piece the Angels had moved elsewhere.
Their deadline action started July 29, when they traded catcher Logan O’Hoppe and reliever Chase Silseth to the Texas Rangers in exchange for prospect Angel Arredondo, who now ranks as their No. 28 prospect.

They got busy on Monday, sending out Jose Soriano to the Blue Jays, Jo Adell to the Guardians and Brent Suter to the Atlanta Braves for five players, including new No. 2 prospect Arjun Nimmala and No. 19 prospect Jacob Cozart.
They ended the day with two more reliever trades, shipping out Ryan Zeferjahn and Kirby Yates for surprising returns.
While they traded away plenty of MLB talent, the Angels set themselves up well for the future with this deadline, and will hope a strong offseason can continue to strengthen their ranks.
