Andreas Christensen’s new Barcelona contract includes 50% pay cut and exit clause

Andreas Christensen is expected to sign a new two-year contract extension at Barcelona this week to extend his stay with the Catalan giants.

According to La Vanguardia, the new contract will see Christensen take a hefty 50% pay cut. The Dane was earning a gross salary of approximately €12 million but will now earn €6m (€3m net) per season.

The new contract also contains a termination clause that means both club and player have the option to cancel the second year.

Christensen’s time at Barcelona has been disrupted by injuries, with the latest issue being a serious knee problem that kept him sidelined for a large chunk of last season.

Yet despite his physical issues, the Catalans still value his technical ability, versatility and professionalism and so have been willing to keep him on despite his lack of game time.

Christensen also made it clear that staying was his priority and he’s now set to continue his career in Catalunya.
