EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A big milestone moment for one of the Sun City’s top baseball talents.
Americas High School’s Drew Gonzalez made his college decision official this week, signing with Texas Tech on Wednesday.
The standout infielder from Americas High School was previously committed to New Mexico State but decommitted last November. After reopening his recruitment, Gonzalez ultimately landed in Lubbock, where he will begin his collegiate career with the Red Raiders.
Surrounded by family, teammates and coaches, Gonzalez officially signed on the dotted line, marking the culmination of years of work on the diamond.
“It means everything to me,” Gonzalez said. “It’s something I’ve always wanted, and I am glad I got this opportunity. It’s my dream school and they gave me an opportunity I couldn’t pass up on.”
Gonzalez has been a key piece for Americas, earning recognition as one of the area’s top infielders and drawing college interest throughout his high school career.
Now, with his future secured, Gonzalez shifts his focus back to his senior season of high school baseball.
