EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Americas High School baseball is headed to the Class 5A Division I regional finals.
Last week, the Trail Blazers defeated Birdville in a best-of-three playoff series that went the distance.
Americas dropped Game 1 last Thursday before responding with back-to-back wins in Games 3 and 4 to claim the series and advance to the Class 5A Division I regional finals.
The regional finals round is also known as the Elite Eight.
The playoff run marks a major step forward for the program after the Trail Blazers came just one win short of reaching the regional finals last season.
Americas also battled through adversity earlier this year. The Trail Blazers dealt with injuries and struggled early in the season before turning things around.
Now, Americas will face one of the top teams in Texas in defending state champion Aledo High School.
The series is scheduled to begin Thursday with a doubleheader at Midland Legacy High School. Series opener is at 12 p.m. CT. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
