Our Quarterback has the most passing yards today and we have the receptions leader today in Boldin with over 200 yards, yet we get stomped today! So, for those who saw the game, what went wrong? Were there enough mistakes that can be corrected that could have turned this game into a win, was it just bad play by the team, was Detroit that good, or what? How did Emmitt look today? Was there any ray of hope, besides Boldin, in this game? I felt this game would give an indication of how well we might do this season because we matched up, in my opinion, favorably against Detroit. Is this ship already sinking or what?????

The special teams gave the Lions great field position all day (plus let one punt get returned for a touchdown). The Lions offense did not have to go very far to score 3 of their touchdowns. Add in the punt return for a TD, an interception run back for a TD, add Blake's fumble in Lion's territory and you get a Card's blow out.

Other than a couple costly turn-overs the offense today was way better than anything we've seen in the last couple years. Had at least two touch down drives of over 60 yards.

IMO - 3 big things is why we lost:


1. we could not make any stops on defense when we needed on 3rd down..I do not have the #'s - but the third down conversion percentage for detroit was extremely high...this follows a pattern from last season..do ok on 1st and 2nd and not making plays on 3rd down.

2. turnovers off of points: not sure for detroit - 1 int by blake, 1 fumble by blake and 1 fumble on a punt return by detroit..I know they got a td on the punt return fumble (2 plays later) and the int was returned for a touchdown..not sure on whether blakes fumble went for a fg or td after they got the ball...but it was like this: eventual points off of turnover - 17 or 21 for detroit - 0 for the Cardinals (detroit had 0 turnovers). That will kill you no matter who you play.

3. special teams play was almost as bad as it could be...they got a punt return for a td (add that to the 17 or 21 points above and you know why we lost), always had great field position on kickoffs and punts as we could not cover the return man and grammatic kickoffs sucked.

and throw in the fact that joey harrington made plays at the perfect time and had 0 int's (in fact - there were very few balls that our defense got their hands on) and looked like the 2nd coming of joe montana. the lions had no running game to speak of.

It's really very simple.

The special teams were a disaster.

The defense made no big plays. Not one sack or turnover.

The offense played the best, but the back-to-back turnovers were killers.
