The Amanda-Clearcreek baseball team accomplished something it hasn’t done in 43 years on Thursday, May 28, and that is to win a district championship.

The No. 10 seed Aces upset No. 2 seed Fredericktown 5-0 in the Central District Division V district title game at Beavers Field.

The duo of Andrew Miller and Gary Kemmerling combined for a two-hitter against the Freddies. Miller started and pitched five innings, giving up one hit, and Kemmerling gave up a hit.

Nick Holland led off the game with a triple for the Aces and scored when Breece Stone singled home to give the Aces a quick lead and pushed it to 3-0 in the second inning when Nick Chambers sparked the inning with a double. He could eventually score, and Jack Thompson scored on a passed ball.

Amanda-Clearcreek added two insurance runs in the fifth when Miller hit a two-out double. Cole Schiff singled Miller home, and Collin Thomas hit an RBI double, scoring Schiff.

The Aces (13-11) advance to the Sweet 16 and will play in Elida against a team from the Northwest district, which hasn’t been determined.

Fairfield Christian Academy 14, Danville 0: The Knights advance to the Division VII district championship game after they cruised past the Blue Devils at Beavers Field on May 28.

Senior AJ Holbrook fired a no-hitter, finishing with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Brayden Stem paced the offense with three hits in four at-bats, including RBI singles in the first and third innings. FCA jumped on the board in the opening frame when Stem singled home Holbrook for the first run.

The Knights added three more runs in the second inning behind a Danville error, a sacrifice fly from Josh Witte, and an RBI double by Connor Blair. FCA then broke the game open with a six-run third inning fueled by RBI singles from Stem, Witte, Blair, and Henry Roberts.

Blair went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, while Holbrook also collected three hits to help his own cause. Roberts added two hits as FCA totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.

The No. 2 seed Knights (17-8) will face the top-seeded Newark Catholic (18-7) at 10 a.m., May 29 at Beavers Field.
