Liberty Union sophomore Ryleigh Brown did it again. After a walk-off hit in the seventh inning to help the Lions win a district championship, Brown one-upped herself with the stakes even higher.
Playing Archbold in a Division V regional semifinal at Allen East High School, Brown hit a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning to break a 1-1 tie and give the Lions a 5-1 victory. Alexis McCoy reached on an error, and after Haedan Brunty sacrificed her to third, Suzie Shultz and Eden Wilson were intentionally walked to load the bases with one out, before Brown unloaded her home run.
More: Fairfield Union wins district championship for the first time since 1999
Shultz hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, and she was able to pick up the win in the circle in relief of Wilson, who pitched the first five innings. Shultz pitched the final five innings and was fantastic, not allowing a run and striking out 11.
Liberty Union (24-1), ranked No. 1 in the state in the final coach’s poll, will face Johnston (24-6) in a regional championship game with a berth to the final four on the line. The site, date, and time is still to be determined.
The Lions will be looking to make their third consecutive appearance in the state tournament after winning their first-ever state championship in 2024 and finishing as state runner-up in 2025.
