CLEARWATER, Fla. — A pair of former Allegany pitching standouts shined at the NFCA Leadoff Classic over the weekend.
Kyra Pittman, a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, recorded a pair of victories and had a 0.57 earned-run average in 12 1/3 innings across three appearances against Auburn, Michigan State and North Carolina Central.
Pittman tossed six strong innings of one-run ball on four hits, striking out three and walking two in the 11-3 win over North Carolina Central Friday.
Against Auburn, the right-hander threw 3 1/3 shutout innings in relief to guide Pittsburgh to a thrilling 12-11 victory in nine innings.
Pittman was the 2018 and '21 Area Player of the Year at Allegany.
Pittsburgh, 3-2, competes in the Houston Invitational this weekend, a slate that ends with a matchup against Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m. and a possible one against Allegany alum Abi Britton.
Britton, a sophomore right-hander, played a key role in the Nittany Lions' 4-1 start at the same event.
She appeared in four games against Brigham Young, Missouri, Auburn and Eastern Kentucky, garnering a 1-0 record and 1.62 ERA in 8 2/3 frames. Britton has eight strikeouts to one walk.
Britton earned her first victory of the season against BYU, tossing three shutout frames of one-hit ball with four strikeouts to no walks in relief.
At Allegany, Britton won Area Player of the Year in all three of her seasons, guiding the Campers to Class 1A state championships in 2022 and '24.
