Basketball runs in Tarris Reed Jr.'s family — just ask his younger brothers, Tristan and Trevor Reed.
The University of Connecticut center was born in August 2003 to parents Darlene and Tarris Reed. The couple later welcomed two more boys who have also played for their respective universities' basketball teams.
Tristan received offers from five different schools before committing to Mississippi State University in 2025, per ESPN. Trevor has played for Denison University in Granville, Ohio, since 2023.

Tarris Jr., Trevor and Tristan were all born and raised in St. Louis. Their mother and father — who worked in finance and engineering, respectively, per CT Insider — encouraged their children to get into athletics.
Darlene, a former track star, admitted to CT Insider in April 2026 that she tried to pass down the sport to Tarris Jr. Though he competed in the Junior Olympics by age 11, he eventually gave up running to pursue basketball.

Basketball is a family sport for the Reed brothers, who all currently play or will play in college
After graduating from John Burroughs School in St. Louis, Trevor joined the men's basketball team at Denison in 2023 as a forward. That same year, he won the NCAC Defensive Athlete of the Week in December.
Like his older brothers, Tristan was a highly sought-after player and received offers from Ohio State University, the University of Missouri, Michigan State University, the University of Maryland and Mississippi State University.
Tristan ultimately committed to the latter, telling Rivials Industry Ranking that he chose the Bulldogs because of the "Southern culture," which he wasn't used to.
"When I took my visit I was greeted in open arms from the people of Starkville," he explained, per Yahoo! Sports.
Tristan, who will join the team in 2026, added that he would describe his game as "dominant and aggressive" with no qualms about "doing the dirty work."

In addition to playing on his school's basketball team, Trevor has also been pursuing a degree in data analytics. He's set to graduate with a bachelor's degree in that field of study in 2027, per his LinkedIn.
The college basketball player also worked as an associate at Walmart and has been a community advisor at Denison University since 2024. He's also a part of his school's Black Student Athlete Association.

Before Tarris Jr. represented UConn on the court, he was a star at the University of Michigan, where his younger brother was in conversation to be his teammate.
Though he ultimately chose to play for Mississippi, Tristan received a scholarship offer from the Wolverines in 2023.
"[The Michigan coaching staff] loves to care for the family," Tarris Jr., told the university at the time. "And it's not from a place where I'm the big brother ... [and] that's a little brother ... so it would be nice to throw an offer."
He continued, "My little brother worked for that and [Coach Juwan Howard] trusted our family. He likes what he sees in me, so he decided to extend an offer to my little brother. So that was a big thing."
