Alexi Lalas has outlined his selections to start for the U.S. men's national team at the 2026 World Cup.
The longtime USMNT defender did not make many surprise selections in his team, which he revealed on his "State of the Union" show.
Lalas started with Matt Freese at goalkeeper. The New York City FC shot-stopper took over as USMNT starter last year and has started the past 12 games for the national team.
Continuing head coach Mauricio Pochettino's recent trend of using three defenders, Lalas picked Tim Ream, Chris Richards and Miles Robinson to make up a back three.
Antonee Robinson and Sergiño Dest are wingbacks in the formation, with both able to move back to make up a five-man defense if needed.
Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Malik Tillman make up a three-man central midfield. Adams would operate as a shield for the back line, McKennie would be in a box-to-box role and Tillman would able to move forward and create goals.
Up top, Christian Pulisic is in a playmaking winger role and Folarin Balogun is deployed as a lone No. 9.
The USMNT would have several quality options off the bench including Brenden Aaronson, Tanner Tessmann, Tim Weah and Alex Freeman among others.
