Alex Rodriguez won exactly one World Series title during his career.
And it happened to be the last World Series the Yankees won as a franchise - in 2009.
Now Rodriguez is saying it would be “an absolute tragedy” if Aaron Judge never wins a championship during his career, and that the Yankees have a unique window to try to make it happen this year.
Rodriguez was asked by Tiki Barber on WFAN, “When is the window closing for this team?”
“That window’s closing and it puts tremendous pressure on Brian Cashman, ownership, the fan base,” Rodriguez answered. “And what an absolute tragedy it would be to have one of the greatest players of our generation only go to one World Series [in 2024] and not win.
“If you’re the Yankees, there is a very simple formula. This is the weakest the American League has been in our lifetime. all our lifetimes. The National League is very strong.
“You have a scenario where you can play the White Sox and the Rays and go to the World Series. So if you’re management, if you have an opportunity to go all in, you gotta put all your chips in now.”

That would mean Brian Cashman and management being aggressive in targeting a catcher and some relief help (and maybe something else) at the trade deadline on Aug. 3. ESPN Insider Tm Kurkjian believes the team will be aggressive on that front.

As for Judge, he spoke to reporters Friday following the re-imaging of his injured rib and said “some progress, some healing going on, but not fully healed. So we’re still waiting on one more doctor to take a look at it, kind of see how we progress forward the next couple weeks. But definitely a positive sign that we’re seeing some healing.”
Judge has been out since May 31 with the injury. Asked if he believes he’ll play again this season, Judge told reporters: “”Yeah, definitely. I don’t see why I wouldn’t."
The Yankees are three games back of the Rays heading into the weekend series with the two-time World Series champion LA. Dodgers.
