Better to be safe than sorry …

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight title challenger Alex Perez was transported to a local hospital following a brutal low blow during his fight against Sumudaerji on the UFC Macau main card this morning (Sat., May 30, 2026) inside Galaxy Arena in Macau, SRA, China.

The accidental foul occurred in the second round and immediately dropped Perez to the canvas in agony. While he attempted to recover, the veteran Flyweight was visibly ill and eventually began vomiting into a bucket inside the cage

After the full five minutes of recovery time, Perez was unable to continue, resulting in the bout being ruled a No Contest.

UFC officials later confirmed to MMAmania.com that Perez was transported to a local hospital for a precautionary testicular ultrasound — something fellow UFC fighter Aoriqilengunfortunately knows quite a bit about.

The unfortunate ending halted the momentum Perez (26-10-1) had built following his violent first-round knockout victory over Charles Johnson at UFC 324 earlier this year (watch highlights).

The former title challenger has endured one of the most snake-bitten stretches in UFC history over the last several years. Since 2020, Perez has seen an astonishing 13 fights canceled for a variety of reasons, though not all of them were due to issues on his side.

Including today’s result, Perez is now 2-5-1 across his last eight appearances.

As for Sumudaerji, the No Contest snapped the momentum of a three-fight winning streak that included victories over Mitch Raposo, Kevin Borjas, and Jesus Aguilar.

While seeing fighters transported to the hospital after UFC events can sound alarming, it is actually fairly common. Athletes are routinely sent for precautionary scans following particularly damaging fights, brutal knockouts, or unusual incidents such as the one that unfolded in Macau.

As of this writing, the results of Perez’s medical examinations have not been disclosed.
