The Boston Red Sox made a bold move to acquire Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers, as he was expected to be a key part of the roster this season.

However, to begin the season, Durbin struggled at the plate, as he began the year going 0-for-19 and was being booed by Red Sox fans. Yet, in the fourth inning on Friday, he lined a ball to center for his first hit of the season, and he also scored Jarren Duran.

The hit was a big one for Durbin, who got the monkey off his back, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora is glad Durbin finally got a hit.

“I’m glad he got the hit,” Cora said postgame on Friday, via The Athletic. “I think everyone was able to breathe, including me, but the kid, he played great at third base, put a good swing there after the weird double play in the first (at-bat). So he’s gonna be okay. He’s a good ballplayer. I think people here are going to love him.”

Durbin is now 1-for-22 and is hitting .045 and has an OPS of .132, but after getting his first hit, Cora expects the third baseman to start having more success.

Durbin hit .256 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs in his rookie season with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Boston is off to a 2-5 start to begin the 2026 MLB season.
