The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its ESPN broadcast schedule for the 2026 college football season on Wednesday, May 27.

Alabama State football earned four ESPN slots for the 2026 season, the most of any SWAC team. It's a one-game improvement from 2025. Alabama State will also play on ESPN's streaming service when it faces Troy in September.

Games like the inaugural Birmingham Football Classic against Southern and the Magic City Classic against Alabama A&M will have a national audience in 2026. The only ESPN family of networks that have been officially set is the Birmingham Football Classic in Week 0 on ESPNU. The Hornets' other three nationally televised games by ESPN will be announced at a later date.

The SWAC Football Championship will be televised on ESPN2, and the Cricket Celebration Bowl will air on ABC.

The Hornets are coming off the their best season in over 20 years, and will return reigning HBCU National Player of the Year in quarterback Andrew Body after he initially entered the transfer portal. It's a season of high expectations for coach Eddie Robinson Jr. in his fifth year at the helm for Alabama State, and that's seen in the decision to put the Hornets on the national stage more than any SWAC football team in 2026.
