Crimson Tide standout Aden Holloway was arrested Monday morning in Alabama, putting the guard in the headlines for the wrong reasons less than 24 hours after his team was named a No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region.
Alabama is no stranger to distracting news before March Madness. The Crimson Tide were the No. 1 overall seed in 2023 just weeks after news broke that star Brandon Miller reportedly supplied a gun used by a teammate to allegedly commit a murder. Alabama stood by Miller, who was not charged or suspended, but the Tide were upset in the Sweet 16.

Aden Holloway arrest details
Holloway was arrested on charges of first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp after a search by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force on Monday morning.
Holloway was booked at Tuscaloosa County Jail, with bond set at $5,000. He was released on bond around 11:45 a.m. CT, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Police say the search turned up "more than a pound of marijuana, paraphernalia and cash."
Alabama has yet to comment on Holloway's arrest. The Crimson Tide are scheduled to face No. 13 Hofstra in Tampa on Friday afternoon.

Holloway was hit with two charges upon his arrest: first-degree possession of marijuana not for personal use and failure to affix a tax stamp. Both of Holloway's charges are felonies, according to AL.com.
Recreational marijuana is legal in Alabama, where Holloway has spent his entire three-year college career. Holloway started out at Auburn before an in-state transfer to the Crimson Tide in 2024.

Will Aden Holloway play in March Madness?
Alabama hasn't yet commented on Holloway's arrest, so there is no indication whether his arrest impacts his availability for the NCAA Tournament. Alabama is set to face No. 13 Hofstra on Friday afternoon in Tampa, and the Crimson Tide would face either Texas Tech or Akron on Sunday if they advanced.
Miller was never suspended during his 2023 gun saga, but he was also never charged with a crime. Holloway is facing two felony charges.
Holloway exclusively came off the bench for Alabama last season but has morphed into a focal point of the offense next to Labaron Philon this season with Mark Sears out of the picture. Holloway is averaging 16.8 points and 3.8 assists per game, shooting a career-high 43.8 percent from 3-point range and 48.1 percent from the field.
