Only a few months ago, Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats said the Crimson Tide was keeping a scholarship for guard Aden Holloway, who faced drug charges in the weeks ahead of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
UA director of athletics Greg Byrne told Al.com on Monday, July 20 that Holloway has returned to practice with the team, but clarified the rising senior still hasn't met the "requirements set by the court, the University and the program."
In June, Holloway entered a guilty plea for charges of first-degree marijuana possession and the illegal possession of prescription drugs, months after drug agents found 2.1 pounds of marijuana and a bottle of promethazine. Doing so allowed him to enter a Second Chance Program.
According to a document outlining the program requirements, the process generally takes approximately six months. In that span, here's what is required of Holloway by the court, which will come before the final determinations made by the University and the team.

Per court documents obtained by The Tuscaloosa News on June 2, Holloway had to write a letter of apology and was ordered to pay $150 monthly, as well as complete 50 hours of community service. Holloway must also attend any required classes or educational courses and must successfully complete random drug and alcohol screenings.
An exit interview is also required upon completion of the program. Should Holloway complete all of these steps in the Second Chance Program, his charges will be dropped. If unsuccessful, he will be convicted.
Holloway was averaging 16.8 points per game and shooting over 48% from the floor before he was suspended following his arrest in March.
Alabama men's basketball will start the 2026-27 season against Sam Houston on Nov. 2.
