For lifelong sports fans, walking away from your childhood team can feel almost impossible. But for actor Joe Lo Truglio, famous for his role as Charles Boyle on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the continuous heartbreak of pulling for the New York Jets eventually became too much to bear.
The Brooklyn-born actor ultimately found an unlikely football savior on the West Coast: the Los Angeles Rams.
Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show to promote his film Gail D'Aultry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, Lo Truglio recounted a story about attending the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. Instead of fully focusing on the movies, he admitted he divorced the Jets and adopted the Rams after rooting vehemently for them in the NFC championship game against the Seattle Seahawks.
"I’ve divorced the Jets," Lo Truglio explained. "The Jets are my ex that I can never quit... I’m always going to keep track of my ex. I’m always going to see how she’s looking. But I need to move on to a healthier relationship. And the Rams provide that for me".
Unlike the perennially struggling franchise in New York, Lo Truglio describes his newfound allegiance to Los Angeles as a truly reciprocal partnership where his football needs are finally met: "My complaints are heard. And there is an attempt for both parties to enjoy the fruits of the relationship".
With Sean McVay's squad fielding a powerhouse roster, the former Jets fan is completely all-in on Los Angeles' winning culture, proving that sometimes moving on from an "ex" is the best thing a football fan can do.
