Aaron Rodgers says this is his final season — again originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Aaron Rodgers has made a habit of saying he's entering his final season in the NFL.
Why would the 2026 campaign be any different? Rodgers is back to start for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he has suggested yet again that he'll play no longer than this year.
Rodgers said a very similar thing last year after first signing with the Steelers. And hey, this is a guy who learned the NFL as a backup to Brett Favre. So all bets are off.
But when Rodgers was asked Wednesday if this would be his last season, he answered in the affirmative: "Yes."
"This is it," Rodgers added.

He also explained how Mike Tomlin's departure played a role before the Steelers then brought aboard Mike McCarthy as the new head coach:
"I thought that was probably it for me in Pittsburgh. But when the decision was made to hire Mike, I started opening my mind back up to coming back."
Rodgers had a solid but not spectacular 2025 season with the Steelers. He and Pittsburgh were just good enough to squeak into the playoffs.
His final pass of the postseason was a pick-six on which Rodgers tried to make the tackle along the sideline but whiffed, so that would've been a rough ending.
Instead, Rodgers is back for more. The Steelers need him, with the rest of their QB depth chart including Will Howard, Mason Rudolph and Drew Allar.
Pittsburgh still has a long-term quarterback question to answer, but that's a problem for another day.
For now, they have Rodgers for one more year. We'll believe his retirement when we see it.
