Big Night AHT was one of the most exciting and entertaining Pittsburgh events in recent memory — all thanks to the legendary yinzer himself, Pat McAfee.
One notable absence from the show was none other than four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers — who has been tied to the Pittsburgh Steelers since the start of free agency.
It was rumored that Rodgers would do a favor for his close friend McAfee and announce his decision to play for the Steelers at the show — and it’s precisely this rumor that ruffled Rodgers’ feathers.
When Rodgers first acknowledged Big Night AHT on Thursday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, he kept it short and sweet:
“I'm sorry I couldn't make it [to Big Night AHT]. I really wanted to be there.”
McAfee then quickly jumped in to counter his friend’s modesty:
“[Rodgers] told me, he was like, ‘Could you imagine if I go in there? I'd be the biggest [expletive] of all time. The amount of time that you put into this, and all the people that you have, and then I show up [to steal the spotlight].’”
Rodgers joked that the conversation he had with McAfee should’ve been kept private — but his decision to skip Big Night AHT to keep all eyes on the glamour of the show itself was truly honorable.
