A.J. Brown Responds To Concerns About Knee Injury After Patriots Trade originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots traded for A.J. Brown on Monday, but his injury history has caused some concern.
Brown is said to have a chronic knee problem. In 2021, he had surgery on both of his knees. It was a minor cleanup procedure. He tweaked his left knee in training camp before the previous season, but was ready for the start of the season. Then in the 2020 season opener he hurt his right knee and missed Week 2 of the season. He has managed the knee injury ever since.
There is some concern that his knee injury is degenerative. Brown passed his physical with the team, and was asked on Tuesday about his knee injury and whether there was any cause for concern.
“No injury. There’s nothing to worry about,” Brown said to reporters, per MassLive's Karen Guregian. “I think this whole little ... you gotta understand where I came from, so any conversation about anything is going to come up.”
Brown has had to get his knee drained in the past, but reassured Patriots reporters that concerns about his knee are overblown. He added that he has not missed many games because of his knees.
"Maybe in four years I’ve missed one game from a shot to the knee,” he said, per Guregian. “So, that’s nothing to worry about. I’m ready to go.”
Brown practiced on Tuesday, and seems ready to roll with his new team. He has missed a total of 12 games in his career. That includes games he's missed for other injuries and games where the Eagles were resting starters. Ultimately, he is a safe bet to take the field during the season.
