The Philadelphia 76ers have turned to former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers after moving on from Daryl Morey following another disappointing playoff exit.
The decision signals more than a temporary front-office shuffle. Philadelphia needed a reset after years of expensive roster swings, postseason frustration, and pressure around Joel Embiid’s championship window.
Myers now becomes the stabilizing figure while the franchise searches for its next long-term basketball decision-maker.

Philadelphia 76ers hand Bob Myers control after Daryl Morey’s exit
As Bleacher Report reported, Bob Myers will oversee Philadelphia’s basketball department on an interim basis and lead the search for the franchise’s next executive.
“Former Warriors GM Bob Myers will oversee the 76ers’ basketball department in the interim and will lead the search for the franchise’s new executive,” B/R reported.
“Myers is the president of sports for 76ers owner Josh Harris’ company, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment,” it added.
That background makes the move logical. Myers helped build the Warriors’ dynasty, managing stars, contracts, egos, and pressure at the highest level.
Philadelphia needs that kind of structure now. The 76ers are not rebuilding from nothing, but they are clearly searching for a cleaner basketball identity.
Myers’ job is not only to steady the front office. It is to find the person who can reshape the team around its remaining high-end talent.
Daryl Morey’s firing made sense after the Philadelphia 76ers stalled again
Morey’s exit came after six seasons, and the broader issue was simple. The 76ers kept spending, trading, and chasing solutions, but never broke through the Eastern Conference ceiling.
Philadelphia made the playoffs in most of Morey’s tenure, but the team never reached the Eastern Conference Finals under his watch.
That failure became harder to defend after another disappointing postseason exit. The franchise had already gone through the Ben Simmons fallout, the James Harden drama, major injury issues, and another expensive swing with Paul George.
At some point, the results had to matter more than the theory. Morey’s approach created big names on paper, but the roster never consistently looked like a complete title team.
That is why replacing him with Myers in the short term fits the moment. The 76ers need less chaos and more trust in the next plan.
Myers already proved with Golden State that he can support a championship core without drowning it in noise. Philadelphia is now asking him to help find the executive who can finally do the same around Embiid and the next version of the Sixers.
