One year after celebrating its own historic milestone, the Par 4 Golf Club will have its 51st tournament this weekend on the 100th anniversary of the Osceola Municipal Golf Course.
Now named the Calvin Washington Memorial, honoring the memory of a beloved charter member and tournament chairman, the event will feature four divisions for the 36-hole, two-day tournament which begins on Saturday at Osceola. Registration remains open for all interested golfers. Players can sign up through Friday.
The divisions are men’s open flight, seniors 65-older, seniors 75-older and women’s open flight. Entry fee is $180 and includes practice found and a reception on Saturday at the Apollo Club. There will also be a Par Four Golf Club celebration and reception on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at DeVillers Square across from the 5 Sisters Blues Café.
The tournament will include a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one and closest-to-the-pin prize.
The tournament was founded in 1968 from a social organization, Par Four Charities Inc. The tournament was named the Calvin Washington Memorial in 2016.
It’s now the area’s only multiple-day, stroke play, amateur golf tournament, open to all levels and ages of golfers.
Osceola Golf Course opened in 1926 as a nine-hole public golf course. It underwent renovations in 2011 to revamp all 18 greens, a redesign of four holes and addition of a upgraded practice area.
