One of Duke's incoming five-star recruits, Deron Rippey Jr., recently caught up with SLAM Magazine, making his goals clear as he transitions from high school basketball to his first collegiate season this fall.

When asked about what he's most looking forward to, Rippey Jr. cited his development on the court as the ultimate answer.

“The biggest thing I’m looking forward to in the summer is getting the feedback and ultimately evolving from a top high school player into a top college player," Rippey told SLAM.

Rippey Jr. was quite impressive in high school, taking home Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year honors in his home state of New Jersey twice. In his senior season with Blair Academy, Rippey Jr. averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and two steals per game.

However, Rippey Jr. was adamant about improving beyond the collegiate level as well.

"Using that feedback (from Duke coaches) to shape me as a top college player to an NBA prospect as well. That’s my biggest goal.”

Looking ahead, Rippey Jr. will be in the right place to hone his skills for an eventual professional career, considering Duke is always among the leading schools in producing NBA talent.
