No other college football team has been been on a tear like LSU football has been recently on the recruiting trail.

Lane Kiffin and his staff have picked up nine commitments in the last 10 days for the LSU 2027 recruiting class. That number includes five-star defensive edge Chris Whitehead, who announced his commitment to the Tigers via his Instagram page June 17.

Whitehead, the Chesterfield, Virginia native, has been heavily sought after by his homestate team Virginia Tech as well as a number of others but Kiffin and his staff have been able to close the deal with the blue chip recruit. The 6-5, 230-pound edge rusher picked LSU over Tech, Ohio State and others.

LSU has been hosting Whitehead on un unofficial visit and Whitehead committed to LSU while on campus.

Whitehead is the second defensive end to commit to LSU's 2027 recruiting class joining KJ Green and he is the 13th overall prospect. The Tigers are now up to No. 23 in the 247SPorts Composite team recruiting rankings after Whitehead's commitment.

LSU football 2027 recruiting class

Chris Whitehead, DE, 5-star

National ranking: No. 31 / State ranking: No. 1 / Position ranking: No. 4

James Franklin and his staff at Virginia Tech are trying hard to not let the top player in Virginia leave the state but Lane Kiffin and his LSU staff have earned the commitment from Whitehead as of now.

Trey Martin, RB, 4-star

National ranking: No. 182 / State ranking: No. 6 / Position ranking: No. 12

It was believed that after LSU added two running backs to the 2027 class that Martin would head elsewhere. The four-star running back from Louisiana showed he's ready to embrace competition.

Tre Segarra, RB, 4-star

National ranking: No. 120 / State ranking: No. 2 / Position ranking: No. 7

Because of Segarra's soccer background, the 5-11, 210-pound tailback's footwork and agility is almost unmatched in the 2027 high school class. A top 10 running back in the country, LSU was able to steal Segarra out of South Carolina's backyard.

Terrance Smith, OT, 4-star

National ranking: No. 129 / State ranking: No. 7 / Position ranking: No. 14

Smith noted that he was eyeing a school he believed he could develop at his position, and that's why he chose LSU. Kiffin's offensive scheme has been a big selling point for an offensive-heavy 2027 recruiting class, thus far, and Smith said he wanted to play in Kiffin's offense.

Amaziah Siale, OT, 3-star

National ranking: No. 515 / State ranking: No. 39 / Position ranking: No. 48

He may be a bit under the radar, but Kiffin and LSU offensive line coach Eric Wolford are high on Siale. The huge (6-6, 360) tackle was once committed to Cal.

Cade Cooper, WR, 4-star

National ranking: No. 297 / State ranking: No. 10 / Position ranking: No. 37

Kiffin continues to collect highly sought-after playmakers on offense. Cooper projects well at high-level college football and at LSU.

Markez Davis, CB, 3-star

National ranking: No. 744 / State ranking: No. 21 / Position ranking: No. 59

For sometime, LSU was considered the frontrunner for Davis and not just because he's from Louisiana. The athlete projects to play cornerback for the Tigers, something he was drawn to.

Brennan Lacy, RB, 3-star

National ranking: No. 612 / State ranking: No. 61 / Position ranking: No. 42

So far, LSU's 2027 recruiting class is heavy on offensive players and Lacy is the first running back to the join the mix. The 5-11, 190-pound playmaker is a multisport athlete.

KJ Green, DE, 5-star

National ranking: No. 8 / State ranking: No. 2 / Position ranking: No. 2

Green is considered to be the second-best defensive end in the 2027 high school class behind Ohio State commit DJ Jacobs. Green fills the void left by Bryant's decommitment.

Ahmad Hudson, TE, 5-star

National ranking: No. 11 / State ranking: No. 2 / Position ranking: No. 1

Hudson is the top rated tight end prospect in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. He is in line to be the next Trey'Dez Green for the Tigers.

Peyton Houston, QB, 4-star

National ranking: No. 125 / State ranking: No. 6 / Positional ranking: No. 9

Houston, the Shreveport native, is a top-10 quarterback recruit in the country. He's been committed to the Tigers prior to Kiffin being hired.

Braylon Calais, ATH, 4-star

National ranking: No. 188 / State ranking: No. 9 / Positional ranking: No. 10

Calais, from Carencro, is a top-10 athlete recruit in the nation. At 6-2, 200, he projects to play wide receiver at the college level.

Ah'Mari Stevens, WR, 4-star

National ranking: N/A / State ranking: No. 27 / Positional ranking: No. 37

Stevens committed to the Tigers back on April 17 during one of the new staff's biggest recruiting weekends since they've taken over the program. At 5-11, 160-pound the speedster should play slot receiver in college.
