In just three weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers will head to Saint Vincent College for training camp and so we decided it was time to offer up some way-too-early bold predictions for the upcoming season. We have high expectations for this team under new head coach Mike McCarthy and his staff and feel like this team is built for a big push with 2027 starting a massive overhaul.
It isn't so much that we feel like new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is some sort of defensive guru, it's more to do with the fact that this defense absolutely suffered under former defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. The last time this defense was Top 5 in scoring and yards was 2020 under former defensive coordinator Keith Butler.
We aren't ready to give a name or even if it's an inside linebacker or outside linebacker but we think the Steelers are keeping all these guys to sort out who is the best in this new scheme and identify the most significant roster needs. Then, a week or two into the season, Pittsburgh will pull off a trade to send one packing in exchange for another player.
Of call the defensive players who we think will benefit from the new system, Jalen Ramsey might be the best. He's going to shuffle between spots in a hybrid defensive back/linebacker role. This might make labeling him something of a challenge for an All-Pro but his stats are going to make him impossible to ignore.
2021 was the last time Aaron Rodgers threw for 4,000 yards in a season so calling this bold isn't really a stretch. It's been a while since we've seen anything close to prime Rodgers but in this system, with these players, it is possible. Rodgers has 10 seasons of 4,000+ yards and we think he wraps up his career with No. 11.
You have to go all the way back to 2016 for the last time the Steelers won a playoff game. This is despite numerous playoff experiences during that time. But this roster feels like it is built to win in the playoffs this season, then the front office is going to cut money and start a full rebuild with a new starting quarterback so Pittsburgh pulls off a playoff win in 2026.

One of the Steelers linebackers gets traded before the deadline
