Injuries in this sport are severe and this sucks. I feel for the kid. At the same time this is such an upgrade to have a coach sit down and talk through things like this openly. JG would have never let on the severity of the injury and we'd all be left guessing for weeks.

I've heard injuries don't matter, so we didn't actually lose anything at all.

Hoping it's not serious though. Already a tough hurdle to start with.
If you’re expecting your fourth round pick in a historically bad draft to be a major contributor you get what you deserve.

well,....there goes the obligatory training camp lower leg injury for the D Line...its good to get that out of the way early.

If I were a D Lineman in college...I would be terrified to be drafted by this team.

but...meniscus??
about 4 to 6 weeks for swelling to go down..so surgery around July 20th give or take.... then recovery time thats almost purely based on pain tolerance after about 6 to 8 weeks...
he could be back on the field by week three... but my guess is he starts the season on IR and they open his practice window week 3 or 4

I mean, there’s been plenty of cases where I’ve seen torn meniscus out for several weeks but why is our guy our for the year? Hmmmm
Yeah… I don’t get this. For most athletes this is a 6-8 week injury. For a Cardinal, it’s seemingly a season ender or in even in some cases multiple season problems.

They are using the Trey benson recovery timeline. Really a tough break for the kid- had been looking forward to seeing if he could have given the cardinals dline a little juice on the pass rush.

Maybe Darius can at least live up to a 4th round picks potential this year???

I already said it didn't matter! That goes for any starters from any draft, it doesn't matter across the board.

Even with a grade 2, he'd be back back by the end of September.

Types of Meniscus Tears

  1. Grade 1 (Mild) Tear: Small tears causing stiffness or soreness, usually stable with little instability. Often heal with rest, ice, and physical therapy without surgery. Recovery typically takes 4–6 weeks, and walking normally is often possible within a month orthobiologicsassociates.com.
  2. Grade 2 (Moderate) Tear: Larger or more symptomatic tears causing swelling, twisting pain, or difficulty bending the knee. Some may heal conservatively in 6–12 weeks, but persistent symptoms may require surgery, extending recovery to 3–4 months orthobiologicsassociates.com.
  3. Complex or Degenerative Tears: Often occur in older adults due to wear-and-tear. These tears may require surgical intervention, such as partial meniscectomy or meniscus repair, with recovery ranging from 4–6 weeks for tissue removal to 3–6 months for repair orthobiologicsassociates.com+2.
In his presser MLF said gone for the year so I assume grade 3, like Nolen apparently had.

If he hasn't signed his rookie contract yet...could the cards just drop him? Or would they rewrite the contract now knowing he may miss significant time in his first season?

For lack of better verbiage rookies who haven't signed their contract have signed a "prenup" that protects the players in case of injury.
I know this because dollar Bill was the last owner to utilize this process. If not the last then one of the last. This is before slotting contract money so the Cards were typically the last to sign their 1st rd draft pick, see Wadsworth.
This means Wadsworth didn't attend training camp because Billy wouldn't utilize the prenup.
