Just before the restricted free agent tender deadline, the San Francisco 49ers and Jake Tonges got a multi-year deal done. The 49ers and Tonges agreed to a two-year deal worth $8 million, including $5.5 million guaranteed.

Tonges finished his second season with the Rams in 2025, which was a breakout year for the third-year tight end. He caught 34 passes for 293 yards and five touchdowns after having zero receptions and only one target in his first two seasons in the NFL.

He backed up George Kittle and filled in admirably as an injury replacement, emerging as a legitimate receiving threat for the 49ers.

Rather than tendering him as a restricted free agent, the 49ers lock him in for two years, keeping Tonges in the mix as Kittle’s backup and the No. 2 tight end.
