The San Francisco 49ers have brought back a few of their own free agents this offseason, including tight end Jake Tonges, who was set to become a restricted free agent at the start of the new league year.

According to Over the Cap, Tonges signed a two-year deal worth $8 million that has four void years added to the end to spread out the cap hits.

Tonges' new contract includes $2.41 million in base salary ($1.15 million in 2026 and $1.26 million in 2027), a $2.62 million signing bonus (spread out over five years), $2.2 million in options ($440,000 each year from 2027-31), $680,000 in per-game roster bonuses ($340,000 in 2026 and 2027) and $100,000 in workout bonuses ($50,000 in 2026 and 2027).

His cap hit for 2026 is $2.06 million and it's $2.61 million in 2027. When the contract voids in 2026, there's a $3.33 million cap hit.

Tonges filled in well for George Kittle last year when he was injured, and with the superstar likely missing a good chunk of 2026 with the torn Achilles, Tonges will be needed even more. This deal could end up being a steal.
