FOXBOROUGH — Hopefully it was worth it.

After Ghana and England finished a 0-0 draw in Boston, the Black Stars and their fans celebrated like a win with a spot in the Round of 32 likely secured. Ghana has four points and a positive goal differential with one match remaining.

"The points, to collect points in the World Cup, you have to pay a high price," Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz said. "The points are very expensive, probably because we are in the United States, everything is expensive."

The nation can still win the group with the right result against Croatia and depending on how England plays against Panama, but Ghana's intention was clear from the first whistle. The Black Stars wanted to frustrate and block England in the first half and create more opportunities in the second half.

"We block them, we succeed in all fronts. We did it. This showed football is not just about techniques and tactic, it’s about courage and determination," Queiroz said. "We were better than them in terms of fighting spirit and determination."

Ghana was only credited with two shots in the game, and just one was on target. England, meanwhile, took 19 shots and put four on frame. The Three Lions held possession for 78 percent of the game and completed 619 passes compared to 168 for the Black Stars.

"If one team ties to play and run against this deep block and you don’t find the spaces and it’s difficult for you to create chances, it can be difficult to watch. It’s not as exciting as two teams trying to win it in a more open game," England manager Thomas Tuchel said. "It was clear four points was the target. They celebrated like a win after. We were disappointed. You see the difference in the approach. There’s no complaints about it, it’s just what it is."

Ghana played a similar game against Panama in its opener Wednesday but found a late winner thanks to Clabe Yirenkyi.

Both teams will have an opportunity to win Group L when their final games kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday. Ghana faces a taller task on paper against Croatia in Philadelphia. The Checkered Ones are ranked 13th in the world, while England opponent Panama sits 42nd. That game is in New Jersey.

"They defended with a lot of determination and a lot of discipline. It was one of the most physical performances that I saw from a team defending," Tuchel said. "I think we play in one of the most difficult groups in this World Cup."
