We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Monday, August 10, is 34 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 34 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 1934 season for the Cardinals.
In 1934, the Cardinals were a very good defensive team with an offense that struggled. They were No. 1 in yards allowed and third in points allowed, giving up 7.6 per game. The problem was they averaged 7.3 points per game offensively. They went 5-6, never winning consecutive games. They were shut out four times and held to single digits eight times.
They scored only eight touchdowns in 11 games.
Eight players attempted passes in 1934. Frank Greene and Phil Sarboe tied for the team lead with 71 passing yards. Sarboe threw the team's only touchdown pass. They threw 13 interceptions as a team, and Sarboe threw three of them.
Doud Russell rushed for 407 yards to lead the team and scored one touchdown. Mike Mikulak scored three times, rushing for 308 yards.
Bill Smith and Milan Creighton tied for the team lead with six receptions each. Smith had 103 yards and the only touchdown reception of the season.
