3 years since we had a good pass rusher-15 years since we had a good quarterback.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and get your franchise quarterback if you have the chance. Sure you don't get immediate results, but really what results have we gotten by constantly trying to fill other holes. Sure Terrell Suggs would be a monster addition and if we get him we will be better for it, but isn't it time to go get a guy who everyone (Leftwich) agrees is a great player at the most important position on the field. There were a ton of folks who questioned why we blew a first round supplemental pick on Tim Rosenbach and there were as many who questioned if Jake Plummer would ever be more than just a scrambling quarterback, but no one who watches Leftwich leaves disappointed. He is the classic, big armed leader who comes along only so often.

I wish I had a dollar for everyone of you on this board who bellyached last season about our quarterback situation. Sure we were all pissed that we couldn't get to the quarterback on defense, but the % of posts arguing that we need a new quarterback easily was 4 to 1 compared to the need a new pash rusher.

Why did we have so many posts about wanting a new quarterback? Because we are all educated football fans and see the absolute need to fix this mess. Is Jeff Blake the bandaid for our quarterback woes? 12 years of mediocrity and 4 different teams makes me a little uneasy that he is. Is Blake better than Plummer? Yeah, but that doesn't take much to be better than Plummer. Is Blake the guy to get us to the Super Bowl? A big emphatic no!! Is Josh McCown that answer? Use your own eyes and your own judgement folks. The arguement has always been that Marcel Shipp stood out the very first day he donned a Cardinal uniform. Did anyone who saw McCown at training camp leave thinking you were seeing a future great quarterback? No, in fact most were more impressed with the undrafted rookie (Parsons).

When was the last time a team picking 6th had a shot at a legit franchise quarterback? Its been a long, long time. Where would Leftwich have been picked back in 1999? Any bets he would have been the #1 overall pick instead of Tim Couch? How about last year? His credentials are every bit as good as either David Carr or Joey Harrington. How about 1998? Anyone think Leftwich would have been right up there with Ryan Leaf?

This is my last pro Leftwich post. I promise.

Leftwich is tempting but I don't think anybody here is qualified to make a decision on McCown because he didn't play enough. Atlanta thought enough of a 2nd round QB to trade him after one year to Green Bay... Brett Favre was the result. Green Bay traded Aaron Brooks for a supply of foam to make cheeseheads.

QB's develop on different timetables than other players including other QB's. I admit I'm skeptical about him but I won't for a second say the fact that he didn't blow people away this year means he never will.

Somehow deep down we have to trust that if we don't take a QB high in the draft it's because our staff is impressed with McCown.

I think Green Bay has spun their QB magic again...... There future QB is playing for the Scottish Claymores, they scored 63 opening week.. Craig Nall is his name, I have heard nothing but good things about him, he might be Favre's replacement, in a couple of years.

Beg's to question why they didn't send Parson's, if they thought enough of him to keep him over Griesen.....?????? Griesen by the way is a back up over there.

More than one franchise has gotten better by trading quarterbacks that they stockpiled. When Aikman matured, Dallas traded Walsh. Green Bay traded Brunell after Farve panned out. I think more, long-term QB potential is like a savings account to be used when you have a good idea what your situation is and can deal from a position of strength (multiple QBs) instead of having to always deal from a position of crisis.

Would I like to see Suggs? OF COURSE! The team has had FAR TOO FEW sacks since SiMEon left. But I still think that in the long run (NOT the short run), Leftwich would do more for the club. A strong, accurate arm with the brains to learn to read defenses and a good attitude sounds like a winner to me.

the reason given for not sending parsons was that at the time the NFL allocation was done..we only had 2 qbs on our roster - and they needed to be here for minicamps, etc.. and there was no guarantee that if you allocate a qb that he will actually get any playing time..

not saying I agree with parsons not being in europe...just what graves said in an interview..

In the Cardinals draft history since 1960, the following quarterbacks have been picked with our #1 selection:

1960 George Izo, Notre Dame
1965 Joe Namath, Alabama
1977 Steve Pisarkiewicz, Missouri
1987 Kelly Stouffer, Colorado State

I'm sure these were considered to be franchise quarterbacks at the time, the only one that WAS a franchise player, refused to play for the Cardinals.

The shocking thing I see, is all this talk of using our #1 pick this year on ANOTHER quarterback, after we drafted the 3rd QB taken LAST YEAR, and after 95% of the posters on this site felt like Blake was an upgrade to the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos.

And of course, I think Byron Leftwich is going to be a bust.

3rd QB taken?

You keep saying that Lex but it isn't true.

You are forgetting Patrick Ramsey.

GB is very high on Nall but their fans were saying things similar to what fans here in Cards land have been saying about McCown. Lower college level etc. He was being hailed as the heir apparent to Favre...we shall see.

I don't know how they determine who goes to Europe and who doesn't but there must be some formula or cycle where teams can send skill position guys.
