The rebuilding New York Jets are expected to target a top quarterback prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Everyone hopes they can draft Arch Manning or Dante Moore, the perceived top two quarterbacks in college football. The reality is quarterback rankings can change in-season, and nobody knows where the Jets will be drafting in 2027.
That's precisely why the Jets shouldn't ignore these three underrated quarterback prospects.
Jayden Maiava thrived for USC as a first-year starter in 2025, throwing for 3,711 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley has a lengthy resume when it comes to developing quarterbacks and he's already working wonders with Maiava. Another developmental step in 2026 could have him in the first-round conversation.
After previously playing at Tulane, Darian Mensah exploded at Duke this past season, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns for the ACC conference champion Blue Devils. Mensah transferred to Miami earlier this offseason in hopes of elevating his stock to new heights. He could follow in Cam Ward's footsteps.
Drew Mestemaker emerged at North Texas last season by throwing for an FBS-high 4,379 passing yards and 34 touchdowns. He thrived in Eric Morris' spread offense. Remember that Coach Morris has coached successful NFL quarterbacks like Ward, Baker Mayfield, and Patrick Mahomes. Mestemaker followed him to Oklahoma State, where he'll get an opportunity to put monstrous numbers on an even bigger stage.
