The Los Angeles Angels had a successful month of May in the minors, as three players brought home Player of the Month honors in their respective leagues.
Triple-A shortstop Denzer Guzman won the Pacific Coast League’s Player of the Month award, outfielder Anthony Scull won the same award with the High-A Try-City Dust Devils and Johnny Slawinski won Pitcher of the Month in the Arizona Complex League.
Guzman began the season in the minors after a cup of tea in MLB last season, but may not stay there for too much longer if he continues to swing the bat like this. He had a .382 batting average in May, hitting six homers and driving in 31 RBIs. His OPS on the Month reached 1.102, and he had 18 extra-base hits in 110 at-bats.
On the season, Guzman has a .327 batting average and a .940 OPS with 11 homers and 55 RBIs.

Scull spent all of last season in High-A, and has clearly accustomed himself to the Northwest League. The 22-year-old hit eight homers last month, posting a 1.024 OPS during the month.
He has vastly improved since his 106 games in High-A last season, raising his OPS to .860 from .717.
Slawinski made five starts for the ACL Angels last month—his first five starts in professional baseball—and had solid numbers across his first 22 professional innings. He struck out 31 batters during that stretch, posting a 2.45 ERA.
The Angels drafted Slawinski with their third-round pick last season, and have to be liking what they’ve seen from the 19-year-old.
MLB.com ranks Slawinski as the No. 3 prospect in the organization, and if he continues to pitch like this, he could break into the league’s Top 100 in no time.
