Soccer fans hoping to score a last-minute seat at this weekend’s World Cup final between Argentina and Spain should brace themselves — it’s going to cost more than any sporting event ever held on American soil.

According to a Forbes report published Wednesday, July 15, resale data from ticket marketplace TickPick shows the final has become the most expensive sporting event ever hosted in the United States based on average purchase price. It has surpassed the Super Bowl, NBA Finals and every other major championship event.

The cheapest available ticket for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final is going for $6,943, per the outlet — a slight dip from the roughly $7,200 get-in price the game commanded before Argentina secured its spot in the final with a win over England on Wednesday afternoon. The average ticket, meanwhile, is selling for $11,327, which TickPick says is the highest average purchase price ever recorded for a U.S. sporting event, according to the report.

The steepest sale so far: two seats in MetLife Stadium‘s Section 115A, which went for $28,479 each — a combined $56,958 for the pair, Forbes reported.

For context on just how far the final has blown past prior benchmarks, the outlet cited TickPick’s rankings of the next-priciest sporting events in American history: Super Bowl LVIII between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs in 2024 ($9,411 average), Super Bowl LV between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 ($7,313), Super Bowl LIV between the Chiefs and 49ers in 2020 ($6,546), and Game 3 of this year’s NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs ($6,308).

Not every match this weekend comes with a sky-high price tag — tickets for the third-place game between France and England are going for under $900, per the report, after prices dropped roughly $300 once England was eliminated by Argentina.

The pricing frenzy tracks with a tournament that’s broken records from the start. The outlet noted that average ticket prices sat at $1,622 when the tournament kicked off last month, according to SeatPick, before climbing to $4,162 for the semifinals. Prices haven’t only gone up, though — the article pointed to the quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium, which saw resale prices plunge nearly 60% after the elimination of both the U.S. and a Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal.
